What happened
The French DPA fined Facebook Ireland Limited €60,000,000 for failing to comply with Article 82 of the Loi 'Informatique et Libertés', and ordered the company to modify the website "facebook.com" to offer French users a means of refusing to give consent that is as simple as the mechanism provided for their acceptance.
